Privacy Policy

Effective

Tallier is made by Paracosmos Studio Inc. This policy covers the Tallier desktop app and the tallier.app website. The short version: your data stays on your device, no account is required, and nothing is collected without your consent.

The desktop app

Everything you create in Tallier, including time entries, projects, clients, invoice profiles, and settings, is stored in a local database on your computer. It never leaves your device unless you export it yourself. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, and no ads.

The app makes network requests in two cases only:

  • Update checks. The GitHub build checks GitHub Releases for new versions at launch. You can turn this off in Preferences. GitHub receives your IP address and standard request metadata; we receive nothing. The Mac App Store build contains no updater; Apple manages its updates.
  • Anonymous usage ping. Off by default. If you opt in, the app sends at most one ping per day containing a random ID, the app version, and your operating system name and version. The ID is generated on your device and links to nothing about you. Opting out deletes it; opting in again creates a fresh one. IP addresses are used transiently for rate limiting and never stored with pings.

The website

tallier.app is a static site. Traffic is measured with Plausible Analytics, which uses no cookies and stores no personal identifiers; we see only aggregate counts. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and operations.

Downloads

The download button on tallier.app routes through the Tallier API. Each download records the platform, the release version, and a one-way hash of your IP address that is re-salted every day. We use this to count downloads and detect abuse. No raw IP address is stored, and because the salt rotates daily, the hash cannot link a visitor across days.

Service providers

We rely on a small set of providers:

  • GitHub: source code hosting, releases, update checks
  • Apple: Mac App Store distribution
  • Netlify: website hosting
  • Plausible: cookieless website analytics

We never sell your data and never share it for advertising.

Retention

  • App data: on your device, under your control. Uninstalling or deleting it is up to you.
  • Usage pings: kept as aggregate statistics; they contain no personal data.
  • Download records: platform, release version, and the daily-salted hash, kept as aggregate download statistics. The raw IP address is never written.
  • Rate-limit IP addresses: held in memory only, never written to disk.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold, which for most users is none at all. Contact us through the channels below and we will honor your request.

Children

Tallier is not directed at children under 13, and we knowingly collect no data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product evolves. The current version, with its effective date, always lives at this page.
